[NEWS] 'You're Beautiful" to be transformed into a musical in 2012

In 2012, top-selling Hallyu drama 'You're Beautiful'(2009) will be reborn as a musical.

Today, musical production company Seensee has announced its plans to introduce 'You're Beautiful' into the Broadway scene with musical lineup performances.

The musical is scheduled to open 31 July to 11 September 2012 in Seoul Sejong Center M Theater. Everything is now under preparations. The new drama musical will be based on the original story of 'You're Beautiful'

'You're Beautiful' is a hit drama series starring Park Shin Hye, Lee Hongki, Jung yonghwa and Jang Keun Suk. The drama has gained worldwide popularity and is ranked the #1 Korean drama of all time in various international polls. Japanese entertainment company FujiTV also remaked the drama last year.

Japanese Remake of "You're Beautiful"

The Korean hit drama, You're Beautiful is getting a remake! Due to You're Beautiful's success in Japan, the television station, TBS is remaking a Japanese version of this mega hit. Since its broadcast in Japan, such DVD/CD stores as Tsutaya has reported You're Beautiful as one of their number one hits of 2010.

This comes as no surprise for You're Beautiful's success is very evident in Japan. The drama is very popular among varying age groups from teens to adults. Some evidences of You're Beautiful's success are as followed:

1. ANJELLs were on the cover of KBOOM's February, 2010 edition
2. The casts were featured in both Korean TV Drama Guide vol. 27 and Korean TV Drama vol. 36 as well as many smaller spreads in other magazines
3. Two official You're Beautiful guidebooks were released
4. ANJELL Fanmeeting in Shibuya last June
5. Pigrabbit keychains everywhere (this I kid you not)

TBS has already picked its cast to be each of the characters in the drama. 

The adorable and naive nun, Go Mi Nyu/Go Mi Nam (Park Shin Hye) will be played by Miori Takimoto

The cold Hwang Tae Kyung (Jang Keun Suk) by Yuta Tamamori

Kind Kang Shin Woo (Jung Yong Hwa) by Taisuke Fujigaya

And the adorable Jeremy (Lee Hong Ki) by Hikaru Yaotome.

Yuta Tamamori and Taisuke Fujigaya are from the group Johnny's Kis-My-Ft2 and Hikaru Yaotome is from the group HEY SAY JUMP. TBS is saying there might be a possibility that the original cast will make a cameo in the drama. 

The remake drama is set to air in July, every Friday at 10 a.m. on TBS. Fans of You're Beautiful stay tune!!

YB OST Ranks High on Gaon Music Chart

500 ++ days since the debut of You're Beautiful, the drama's Original Soundtrack still takes up top spots on the Gaon Music Chart.

Similar to Billboard Charts, Gaon is a weekly and monthly music chart that tracks down the best-selling physical albums in Korea, created by Korea Music Content Industry Association.

For the February 20-26 week, You're Beautiful (미 남이시네요) OST 1 and 2 have taken top spots on both the All Music (종합) and Domestic (국내) categories.

For All Music, ranking the best selling albums in Korea, YB OST part 1 (which includes Park Shin Hye's "Lovely Day") takes 3rd spot as a new entry, while YB OST part 2 takes 7th place, three spots up from 10th place of the previous week.

Meanwhile, for the Domestic Category, ranking music released in Korea for the Korean market only, YB OST 1 and 2 take 2nd (new entry) and 4th (from #12) spots, respectively.

Congratulations to Park Shin Hye and the rest of the ANJell actors, staff and crew, for another milestone of this contemporary legend of a drama.

Korean drama "Minamishineyo" scores top rating in Japan

Popular Korean TV series "Minamishineyo," currently airing on Japanese public network Fuji TV, has scored the highest viewership rating amongst shows broadcast in the same timeslot.

The show's promoter Market Insight announced in a press release on Thursday that the 11th episode of "Minamishineyo" broadcast on August 3, posted a rating of 6.9 percent, beating out TV Asahi's suspense mystery drama and TBS' "Mito Kimon" and NTV's "Karei naru Spy - Gogodora" which all air during the 3:30 p.m. timeslot.

"Minamishineyo" began its run in the country on July 20 as part of Fuji TV's "Hallyu Alpha Summer Festival" after having first premiered in the country on the Hallyu exclusive cable channel KNTV in March.

The hit SBS drama "Minamishineyo," about a girl pretending to be a man to join the popular idol group A.N.JELL, made household names out of actor Jang Keun-suk and actress Park Shin-hye in Korea and throughout Asia.

"Minamishineyo" aired in Korea during the latter half of 2009, maintaining viewership ratings in the 10 percent range despite competing against KBS' blockbuster drama "IRIS" during its run.

The show has been a success overseas as well, selling its publication rights to several broadcasters in Asia including China's CCTV, Thailand's BBTV, Philippines' GMA and Singapore’s MATV.

As we reported earlier, in the lead up to the first A.N.Jell Fanmeeting in Japan, MNET Japan will be airing the Making of 'You're Beautiful'.  The first episode will be aired on the 19 June 2010.
